One would hope that Non-Profit Organisations work in South Africa meeting the greatest or most pressing needs would attract the most funding, however it is sometimes organisations who write the best funding proposals (or even hire the best grant writers) that succeed, irrespective of their real community impact.

South Africa’s population is currently 64.3 million people. This equates to 1 registered Non-Profit Organisation for every 218 people in South Africa, which is grossly excessive. It compounds the overwhelming truth that our non-profit sector is congested and non-realistic.

SAIF was established in 1987 by a group of concerned organisations - the SACC, Boys Town, Salvation Army, World Vision, Methodist Church and a fundraising consultancy.
